Sew four coordinating Cardinal Christmas round placemats from one premium cotton fabric panel. The exact artwork from the existing Cardinal Christmas placemat project brings bright red cardinals, evergreen boughs, holly, red berries and pinecones to four round placemats on white backgrounds.
Four designs, one panel
- Printed panel: 43 inches wide x 36 inches long, including a removable instruction band.
- Front blanks: four 17 x 17-inch squares.
- Finished size: approximately 15 inches in diameter per bound placemat before laundering.
- Designs: Pine Bough, Holly & Berries, Winter Perch and Evergreen Spray.
Quilt first, then trim and bind
Quilt the square sandwiches, measure fresh 15-inch circles after quilting, then trim and finish with true bias binding. A 1/4-inch binding seam is included in this construction. Final size varies with quilting, pressing and laundering. This new round design has not yet been physically print-and-sew tested.
Supplies you add
1-1/4 yards backing cotton (at least 38 x 38 usable inches), at least 40 x 40 inches low-loft batting, and 1 yard coordinating binding cotton (at least 32 x 32 usable inches), plus thread and sewing tools. Cut four 19-inch backing and batting squares. Cut four 16-inch binding squares to make four true 45-degree bias strips, 2-1/4 inches wide and at least 60 inches long each. Backing, batting and binding are not included. This is a sewing panel, not finished placemats. No tested heat-resistance claim is made.
The five-page illustrated guide includes sewing steps, a true-bias cutting diagram, a scale-checked quarter-circle template, materials and permissions. Download the round placemat sewing guide (PDF).
